Five steps from idea to quotes
We connect Denver-area homeowners with independent local deck builders for free, no-obligation quotes. The contractor you choose quotes, permits, contracts and builds directly with you. Denver CO Deck Builders is not a contractor and does not build or repair decks; we simply make it easier to reach the people who do.
Describe your deck project
Fill in the free quote form with your ZIP code, the type of project, rough size, wood or composite, height off the ground, whether an old deck is coming out, and your timing. Photos or a rough sketch help later, too.
We pass your request to local deck builders
We send your details to independent deck contractors who serve your part of the metro. We usually reply the same day to confirm your request was received.
Contractors contact you and visit
Interested contractors call or email to set up an on-site estimate. They measure, check the house wall where a ledger would attach, look at access and grade, and talk through materials.
Compare written quotes
Ask each contractor for a written quote that lists size, materials, footings, railings, stairs, permit handling and the payment schedule, so the numbers can be compared fairly.
Check the contractor and choose
Before you sign, confirm the license or registration for your city, proof of insurance and a written contract. Hire the contractor you prefer, or none at all.
Who handles the permit?
The contractor you hire normally pulls the permit as part of the job. In Denver, most decks over 12 inches off the ground need a zoning permit, and decks 30 inches or more above grade, decks over 200 sq ft and all covered decks also need a building permit. Suburbs set their own rules; Parker, for example, requires a permit for every deck. This is general information, not legal advice. See the price of permits and projects on the deck cost guide.
What to check before you sign
- In Denver, the contractor holds a current City and County of Denver contractor license (residential work is normally Class C) and will pull the permit. In Aurora, Lakewood, Littleton, Arvada, Thornton, Douglas County (Highlands Ranch) and other suburbs, the contractor is licensed or registered with that city or county.
- Proof of liability and workers' compensation insurance.
- A written contract with scope, materials and payment schedule.
- HOA approval, and in Denver historic districts a Certificate of Appropriateness, before work starts.
